We made it to over 500+ lists! Pat yourselves on the back. And that's
just the start....

This week is the start of a new feature called 'tenner of the week.'
I created a SUPER SECRET, HIGHLY COMPLICATED FORMULA that I'll crunch
at the end of the week to announce the victor. So bust out with the
best content you can! The 'week' for 'tenner of the week' will run
every Sunday morning through Saturday night. So the lists created in
the last day will count towards this weeks contest.

More features are on the way as well, as soon as I have reliable
Internet and some free time...

weekly contest

Today I'm starting a weekly contest. Well, at least
trying one... :

Whoever can create a tennbend list with the most 'tenns' wins! So
start digging through some older lists and find one that inspires
you. Remember, a tennbend can be the exact same topic, or a complete
reinterpretation or remix of a list. Right now, the prize is a
'tenner of the week' link on the top menu bar and (if you want it)
your very own tenning.com e-mail address. Not very exciting to many,
but you still get bragging rights! The contest ends at 7PM PST on
April 2nd.

I would love some feedback on what you'd like to see in future weekly
contests and what other kinds of prizes would make it worthwhile.

user profile revamp!

i just finished a big revamping of the user profile. i'm trying to put more of an emphasis on the user profile as a mode of navigating the site. everyone's varying personalities is what really makes a tenning list interesting anyways, right? now its easier to find more lists and users with them. here are the changes-

-now when you log in, you will be automatically directed to your profile.
-now it shows all of your lists on your profile, instead of only your most recent lists. because of this, i have removed the 'my lists' link in the menu.
-your buddies have been moved to the right of your lists, to make your profile more compact, and much shorter. also, i removed the 'my buddies lists' menu item because it was a bit confusing, and now you can more easily find your buddies lists from your profile.
-if you don't have tenning points or any lists, you won't see a title for them. not a big deal, but it cleans things up.
-'my subscriptions' has been moved to the profile. instead of hogging a menu item, you can manage your subscriptions by clicking the 'my subscriptions' tab on your profile.

and again, your profile has much friendlier address now. for example, mine is 'http://tenning.com/user/justin'. just replace my username with yours!

these are a lot of changes, i know. i hope it doesn't shake things up too much for you all. if you would like to see any other changes, or reverse one, please let me know.

favorite system update and cleaner URLs!

there were two new additions today.

the first is an improved favorite system! now, when you view a user's profile, you will see a list of that users favorites in the upper right corner. this is a great way to show off your appreciate for your favorite lists and, likewise, find other great lists through your friend's profiles.

the other improvement is cleaner URLs! now, your account link is 'http://tenning.com/user/yourname.' this makes it easier to find your profile as well as the profiles of others. plus, your lists can be found at 'http://tenning.com/top_ten_whatever_your_list_title_is.' how convenient!

'tennbending' system is up!

i took nancy reagan's term and took it a step further. now whenever you are creating a list, if you are 'tennbending' a list, enter the title of the list you are remixing/reinterpreting in the 'tennbending' entry. when your list is created it will automatically create a link to the list you are bending. also, when viewing a list, any 'tennbends' of that list will appear on the top of the sidebar to the right. start the bending!

tenning.com is still down. the hosting company had a problem and they're trying to restore it. hopefully everything will be back up and working in the next hour or so.

new tag browsing system

sure, the old 'tag' page was pretty and all, but now you can actually browse through different categories of lists. its a good way of finding/revisiting old lists, since they're sorted by the creation date within a tag. check it out and browse around!

the quota system is fixed!

you can now make up to 3 lists a day, plus unlimited comments. i think this is a good number. let me know if you disagree.

the tenning blog is up! can you tell i still don't have a job?

i'd like to use this to make periodic announcements regarding new features and such. i'm in the process of looking into some new features. give me some feedback on how you feel about these and what else you might want to see at tenning.com in the near future:

-a newsletter feature: i'm trying to put together a newsletter for the end of every week that will send out to all users to keep them updated on the best lists of the week. of course, there will be an option to turn it off in your profile if you don't want it.
-a user quota: i'm trying to set up a filter that will only allow a user to make x number of lists in x hours. i'm not sure what those numbers should be yet. i see no need to restrict comments, but i really want to make people be selective in the lists they create and prevent potential spammers down the road.
-a catergory browsing system: i like the tags section, with the different sizes and colors, but i think an easier to navigate category section would be much more effective.
-tenning points contest: i'm trying to polish the whole points system, but it is proving hard. once i'm completely happy with that, i'm considering implementing some sort of reward system. either through a camel-notes/marlboro-points type system where you can get free stuff, or just a pat on the back and special recognition on the site. any thoughts concerning this?
-a rebuttal/ammend feature: instead of creating your own list after reading someone else's, i'd like to make a system where you can just add your own list to a list. this could open up a lot of possibilities, but implementing this would be hard and for now it's on the back burner.
-adding more to the user profile: it has been recommended and i agree that every user should have their 'top ten favorite tenning lists' in their profile. its a good way of promoting older 'classic' lists, once more and more lists come in. it has also been mentioned that there should be a link to see a users newest posts, to follow your favorite users' comments. any other ideas?

i'm not a great programmer, but i really want to morph this site into the best website i can. anyone else have any other suggestions?

also, tenning.com now has a myspace page! i'm not exactly sure how to make the best out of this outlet either, other than try to reach new users. again, ideas are welcome.

i'm glad to see so many people are finding tenning to be worthwhile! please keep tenning it up and continue spreading the word!
